The condition of the month for October is Osteoporosis. If you or someone you know is suffering from Osteoporosis please call or stop in our office to find out how chiropractic can help you. Osteoporosis is the most common type of bone disease. There are currently an estimated 10 million Americans suffering from osteoporosis, as well as another 18 million who have low bone mass, or osteopenia. Osteoporosis occurs when the body fails to form enough new bone, or when too much old bone is reabsorbed by the body, or both. Calcium and phosphate are two minerals that are essential for normal bone formation. Throughout youth, the body uses these minerals to produce bones. If calcium intake is not sufficient, or if the body does not absorb enough calcium from the diet, bone production and bone tissues may suffer. As people age, calcium and phospate may be reabsorbed back into the body from the bones, which makes the bone tissue weaker. Both situations can result in brittle, fragile bones that are subject to fractures, even in the absence of trauma. Researchers estimate that about 20% of American women over the age of 50 have osteoporosis. In addition, another 30% of them have osteopenia, which is abnormally low bone density that may eventually deteriorate into osteoporosis, if not treated. About half of all women over the age of 50 will suffer a fracture of the hip, wrist, or vertebra.

September Newsletter

Hello all Hayes Family Chiropractic patients, for the month of September our condition of the month is Sciatica. Sciatica is defined as pain that radiates from the lower back into the buttocks and down the back of one or both legs, caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerves, the largest nerves of the body. It usually begins as an acute pain in the lower back and then radiates down the back of either or both legs. There are 5 pairs of nerves that exit the spine in the lower back. These nerves make up what we know as the sciatic nerves. If the vertebrae or bones in the lower back are misaligned or out of place; or the disc between the vertebrae are swollen, bulged or herniated, the result is pressure on those nearby nerves. This can cause tremendous pain and normal daily activities become almost impossible.

During the month of September we will also be offering cervical pillows for $37.......that is a $10 discount.

Each new day about 10,000 Americans try chiropractic care for the first time. Some have only minor complaints. Some suffer from the pain and misery of serious health problems, injuries, and maladies. Some turn to chiropractic as a last resort.
Still, despite this groundswell-demand for modern chiropractic, many persons in need of chiropractic care more than anything else in the world, put off trying this safe, painless, drugless health care method because they aren’t sure what chiropractic is and how it works.
How regrettable! It’s bad enough to be ill or in pain, but to also be unfamiliar with the very method that might help . . . well, that’s tragic . . . especially when chiropractic is so close at hand.

On September 14th, and 21st we will be offering treatments, exams, case histories, and x-rays (if necessary) all at no charge. All you have to do is bring in at least 12 canned or non-perishable items. This is offer is good for new patients on the 14th and for existing patients on the 21st.
Eat Well, Move Well, & Think Well.......we look forward to seeing you at Hayes Family Chiropractic!

August's Condition of the Month: Stress and Your Health
Traffic Jams. Paying Bills. Deadlines. Pesky neighbors. These unpleasant or challenging situations create stress in our lives. So why is it some people deal with these stress situations better than others? The answer is complex and includes many factors from genetics to weather conditions, but an interesting study in The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics indicates that there is a relationship between chiropractic and the effect it can have on dealing with stress situations in your life. This study revealed that nearly one in three patients viewed their lives as moderately to severely stressful, and more than 50% felt that stress had a moderate to severe impact on their health problems. Additionally, 71% of the patients indicated that it would be helpful if their chiropractor offered advice to help them cope with these stressful situations. Communicating with your chiropractor about dealing with stress is the starting point, and you might be surprised to find that your chiropractor is full of sound advice on ways to effectively deal with stress in your life. Most people know that improving nerve and spinal function has a dramatic impact on improving emotional, mental and physical function. Getting the most out of your chiropractic care may include talking to your chiropractor about effective strategies to deal with the stress in your life, so be sure to inform your chiropractor about your personal situation so your Doctor of Chiropractic can help you improve your health and wellness at maximum levels. Chiropractic involves touch; this factor alone sets the stage for release of muscular tension. Your chiropractor administers one or a series of manipulations ("adjustments") to the spine and surrounding musculature. The adjustments may help the fatigue or stress by removing nerve irritation, releasing muscular tension and improving blood circulation. To see if chiropractic may be able to help you call (219) 661-8680 today for a complimentary consultation. The Doctors and Staff from Hayes Family Chiropractic will be at the Lake County Fair August 7th-16th. So come by and support the office as we will be giving Myo Scans, Foot Scans and selling Bio-Freeze. So bring your family, friends and loved ones by to say hi.
